Derya Akkaynak at the University of Haifa worked for years to develop a way to “clear the water” from her reef photography. Petapixel reports that work makes reef research more accurate, with the nice feature of making underwater images even more beautiful.
This is not just a color balance and white point change. We’ve been able to do that for decades with digital tools. This is a form of computational photography, that melds several frames of the scene into one super accurate, non-murky, color balanced image.
