Carrie’s son was getting ready to head off to college. He’s a great kid, worked hard in school, really made his mom & dad proud. If you’ve sent kids off into the world, you have probably felt how tough the moment of departure can be.
She decided to express her love & pride by creating a photobook chronicling his life so far. The act of creation might help soften the blow to mom of her son’s departure, maybe just a little.
Carrie is as busy as can be, with a great job, lots of public service, and caring for her kids. She knew that using any of the hundreds of traditional online photobook companies, she would never get done in time. The photobook behemoths depend on the customer being a Do-It-Yourselfer. They run a factory, and the customer is part of their big machine. This can work for photoprints & holiday cards. But photobooks are much more complicated.
And if by some miracle she did make her deadline, the book wouldn’t reflect the years of training our professionals would bring to scanning & design.
So she brought her photos & dreams to us. She’d made travel books with us for her travel library over the years. We did what we always do, reviewing her material, listening to her words & her heart, and then making suggestions on features & price. Once the estimate seemed just right, Sheryl, her personal designer, got to work.
In addition to the great, custom-designed photobook, Carrie also received all her full-resolution, fully retouched scan files on gold archival disks. These scan disks may seem like just a side benefit of family history & milestone projects. But that side benefit can become a huge payoff, should disaster strike the original photographs.
After some proof cycles of design & edit, we pressed Carrie’s book. Even though she’d seen many electronic proofs, we knew the unveiling of her Memento Book would be powerful. Well, as you can see, Carrie was pretty happy! What you might not see are her tears of joy, as she gave Sheryl a big hug. She may not have known it, but Carrie gave us all a huge psychic payday that day.
